Parliamo 1 is for people who already have some Italian but have had little practice in speaking it. We meet twice a month for an hour and a half in an open and friendly session in which everyone gets the chance to put their Italian into practice, and hopefully improve it over time. We use a mixture of loosely structured topics which are linked in some way to things Italian. We use Italian texts (to read and to hear spoken) as a fixed element for part of each session. We each have the chance to read a paragraph or two aloud, and then translate to English.

Other explorations include TV and film snippets, Italian songs and their lyrics, online newspaper articles, and whatever else takes our fancy. All members can contribute ideas for topics.

The Group’s current level ranges from post-elementary to pre-intermediate although spoken Italian is much less developed than comprehension skills. Whatever their level, members are encouraged (and collectively helped) to always use Italian when speaking.

This group would not be suitable for those at beginner level.
